Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026Realize® is a sanctuary. What you share here — your reflections, your love, your presence — is sacred to us. We collect only what we need, protect it carefully, and will never sell it.
Who we are
Realize is operated by Realization Labs, Inc., a company based in Hawaiʻi. When this policy says "we," "us," or "our," it means Realization Labs, Inc. If you have questions, you can reach us at support@torealize.com.
What we collect
We collect information in two ways: what you give us directly, and what we observe as you use the app.
Information you provide:
- Account information — your name and email address when you create an account
- Profile content — your photo, and the background, image, and line you choose for Home
- What you place at the center — the word you use for the Divine, the sacred object you choose, and what you tell us makes you feel infinite and connected. These choices can reflect your religious or philosophical beliefs, so we treat them as sensitive information. You give them by choice, and you can change them at any time in Settings.
- Love notes — the reflections, prayers, and gratitude you create in Realize, whether written, recorded as a voice or video note, or shared as a photo. Voice notes are transcribed to text — by AssemblyAI, our transcription provider — so they can be read as well as heard.
- Love you send — when you send love to another person in your circle, or amplify one of their love notes
- Invite information — when you invite someone, we associate that invitation with your account
- Phone number — only if you choose to let friends find you. We keep a scrambled fingerprint of it, never the number itself (see Finding your friends below)
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data — which features you use, when you complete daily practices, and how you move through Realize. We use Mixpanel to understand these patterns at an aggregate level. We do not record the contents of your love notes in our analytics.
- Approximate location from your internet address — the country, region, and city it suggests. We use it only to understand where our community is practicing.
- Your phone's time zone — for example "Pacific/Honolulu". Unless you share a place (see Where in the world below), it places an anonymous light on the Earth near your time zone's main city when someone sends love to everyone. It is never shown with your name.
- Device information — device type, operating system version, and a device identifier used for push notifications
- Push notification tokens — to deliver notifications when someone in your circle sends you love, sends you a love note, or asks for support
- Crash and error reports — when something breaks, we receive the technical details of the failure through Sentry so we can fix it. These reports carry your account identifier, never your name, your email, or anything you have written.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and personalize your Realize experience
- Deliver your daily practices and reminders
- Send love and notifications between you and the people in your circle
- Understand how Realize is used so we can improve it
- Respond to your support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your love notes or personal reflections to train AI models, to target advertising, or for any purpose other than delivering your Realize experience.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited circumstances:
- With people in your circle — your name and the background and image you choose for Home are visible to people you are connected with in Realize. Love you send is attributed to you.
- With service providers — we use third-party services to help operate Realize: Supabase (our database, file storage, and sign-in), Mixpanel (analytics), OneSignal (push notifications, which on Android are delivered through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging), Sentry (crash reporting), AssemblyAI (voice note transcription), and Twilio (which sends the one text that verifies your phone number, if you add one). These providers process data only on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality agreements.
- For legal reasons — if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
- In a business transfer — if Realization Labs is acquired or merges with another company, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Your love notes and content
Your love notes are shared with your circle by default — the people you have connected with in Realize. You can make any note private while you write it or at any time afterward, and then only you can see it. A note you send to someone can be read by that person. A note you write in a room can be read by everyone in that room. A note you share at a link can be read by anyone who has the link, until you stop sharing it. We do not read your love notes except when required to investigate a safety issue or as required by law.
Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from within the Realize app under Settings. You can also request deletion by emailing support@torealize.com. Deletion permanently removes your account, everything you chose for Home, your love notes, and your personal information.
Children's privacy
Realize is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Finding your friends
If you choose to, you can add your phone number so that friends who have it can find you in Realize, and so you can see which of your contacts are already here. Both are optional.
- Your phone number — to confirm it is yours, we send one text containing a verification code, through Twilio. Once it is verified we store only a scrambled fingerprint of the number (a keyed cryptographic hash), never the number itself. We never show your number to anyone, and we will never text you again. You can stop being findable at any time in Settings, and deleting your account removes it.
- Your contacts — if you allow access, Realize sends the phone numbers and email addresses in your contacts to our server, over an encrypted connection, to check them against the people who have chosen to be found. We keep nothing from your contacts: they are checked and then discarded. The names in your contacts never leave your device. To prevent misuse, we limit how many contacts can be checked each day.
- What others see — while you are findable, people in Realize who have your number or email address in their contacts can see that you are here: your first name and your profile photo. They never see your number.
Invitations, across the install
When a friend invites you, Realize tries to carry that invitation from their link through to the moment you open Realize for the first time, so you arrive already connected.
- On iPhone — when you tap the App Store badge on an invitation page, the page copies that invitation link to your clipboard. Realize reads your clipboard only when you tap Paste invitation, on your phone, to find the invitation. Anything else on your clipboard is ignored and never sent to us.
- On Android — when you install from an invitation page's Google Play badge, Google Play tells Realize which invitation link you came from, so it can connect you to the person who invited you. It carries only that invitation, nothing else about you.
Where in the world
When someone sends love to everyone in Realize, the sit shows the Earth with a light for each person here. You can choose to share where you are, so your light is where you are. This is optional, and you can set it in Settings under Where in the world.
- Two ways to share — type a city, or let Realize use your device's location. If you choose your location, your phone asks your permission first. Realize reads your location only while it is open, never in the background, and asks only for approximate location.
- What we keep — your city, your country, and a point rounded to about 11 kilometers (7 miles). We never store your exact position. Your device's own map service (Apple's or Google's) turns the point into a city name.
- What others see — your light appears on the Earth without your name. When someone sends love to everyone, the closing line may also name a few of the people their love reached, as a first name and city ("Ana in Lisbon"). We only show a name for a city that at least two people have shared, and never your exact position.
- Stopping — choose Stop sharing in Settings to remove your place; your light then returns to your time zone, unnamed. Deleting your account removes both.
Camera and microphone
When you record a voice or video love note, Realize uses your device's microphone and camera. We access them only while you are recording, and the recording is used solely to create that love note. You can manage these permissions at any time through your device settings.
Push notifications
With your permission, Realize sends notifications to help you stay close to your practice and the people in your circle. These include:
- When someone in your circle sends you love
- When someone sends you a love note
- When someone in your circle asks for love or needs support
- Gentle daily reminders to return to your practice
Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device and do not require us to send you anything. The others are delivered through OneSignal, our push notification provider. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
Security
We take the security of your information seriously. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work diligently to protect what you share with us.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of Realize after that point means you accept the updated policy.
